Let’s start with a little about you!

Tell us where you’re from and a bit about your life outside of nails. Family, hobbies, pets, anything that makes you, you?

Hi my name is Hayley Norman, I am 43 and live in Ulverston Cumbria. I have been married 10 years this year, I have two beautiful children; a son aged 22 and a daughter aged 19 and also have two step children, plus 4 wonderful grandchildren from my husband’s side, and my little sausage dog Max. My life outside of nails I would say I like to keep myself pretty busy, I love nothing more than spending time with my family and making memories. I suffered a mini stroke in 2013 which gave me a very different outlook on life, this pushed me more to start my nail journey.

How did your nail journey begin? What inspired you to become a nail tech, and how long have you been in the industry?

I began my nail journey in 2019 just by doing close friends and family, I had no idea this would ever be my full time job. I always loved having my nails done and loved how nice it made me feel therefore this inspired me to make others feel the same. In 2020 I became a part time nail technician along side my other job, in 2022 I decided to take the leap and set up a little home salon and become a full time Nail Technician.

What’s your absolute favourite nail design to create, and why?

Anything animal print; leopard print has to be my favourite, it is what my clients know me best for and know I love creating this type of nail art. I feel it never goes out of fashion and there are so many different ways to create it.

What’s your ultimate “dream nail client” scenario? If you could do nails for anyone in the world (celebrity, historical figure, etc.), who would it be and what design would you create?

In my dream nail scenario, I envision a vibrant mix of colours that reflect Ellie Goulding's ethereal style. Picture a soft lavender base adorned with delicate gold accents, reminiscent of her shimmering performances. Each nail would showcase intricate designs, like tiny stars and moon phases, capturing the essence of her dreamy music. The overall look would be both elegant and whimsical, perfect for channeling that Ellie Goulding vibe.

Let us in on your top 3 favourite products that you just cannot work without?

My top 3 products that I cannot work without would be; gel paint from Magpie Beauty, my nail art brushes from Nail Stamping Queen and my Katie Barnes prep tools.

What season’s nail art do you love to create the most? Are you a fan of that classic bridal French, gory Halloween art or cover me in glitter Xmas nails or maybe another season is your thing ?

Summer is my favourite nail art season, bursting with vibrant colours and playful designs. I love bright shades like coral, turquoise, and sunny yellow that capture the essence of sunny days. Nail art during this season often features fun patterns like tropical flowers, palm trees, and even fruity designs, making each manicure a celebration of warmth and joy.

If your life was a nail polish colour, what would it be called? Give us a fun and creative name that sums up your vibe!

It would be called ‘Radiant Dream’. This name reflects a vibrant and optimistic spirit, capturing the essence of my personality and the bright moments I like to create. Just like a perfect nail polish, it would embody a mix of boldness and beauty, showcasing the unique experiences and dreams that shape who I am. Plus, it would shine just like my positive energy!

When you’re not doing nails, how do you like to unwind? What’s your go-to activity to relax and recharge after a long day at the salon?

To unwind and recharge after a busy day I enjoy taking my dog for a walk in the fresh air. I also love to sit and practice nail art, I feel it’s where I am at my happiest as it switches my mind off everyday things.

What has been your favourite part of the Sparkle Squad membership so far? Any tutorial you have enjoyed more than others or any elements of the SS you are loving?

My favourite part of being a Sparkle Squad member so far is learning different nail art techniques which have pushed me out of my comfort zone, and has given me the confidence to try new things. The support and advice is always on hand from Katy when needed and we also have an amazing social network who are always there to support each other!
